Mark Sams received an M.Sc. (1984) and a Ph.D. (1987) from Imperial College, London University.
From 1987 to 1994 he worked as a Research Fellow and Research Associate on rock physics research at Imperial College. In 1994, he moved to Malaysia where he joined Petronas Research and Scientific Services working on seismic processing, rock physics, AVO analysis and inversion. He joined Jason in 1997 where he eventually became the Regional Technical Manager for Asia Pacific leading teams focussed on rock physics and seismic inversion. In 2012 he joined Ikon Science as Quantitative Interpretation manager for Asia Pacific. In 2019 Mark joined Petronas Carigali as a Specialist in Quantitative Interpretation and in 2022 re-joined Ikon Science as VP of Services in Asia Pacific.
His interests are in the practical application of rock physics, deterministic and geostatistical inversion in the seismic reservoir characterisation workflow. He is a member of the SEG.
