Rock Physics Driven 2D Seismic Forward Modelling

Forward numerical modelling of seismic data is the use of geological models of the earth to simulate seismic field experiments. Effective models can predict observed seismic response as driven by variations in the rock elastic properties as well as geological structure and seismic data parameters such as frequency, bandwidth and phase. Additionally, with forward modelling we can predict not just the stacked response of seismic data, but also angle specific reflectivity (AVO), and angle specific impedance values (EI). Accurately using forward modelling as a tool for exploration requires the interpreter to have a solid understanding of Rock Physics concepts as well as confidence in the accuracy of the input data. In this demonstration, Ikon Science will discuss both fundamental Rock Physics concepts as related to the creation of synthetic volumes, as well as practical examples of how to model reservoir specific features. Lastly, we will discuss how to generate multi-geometry/multi-attribute synthetic forward models to allow for the simultaneous comparison of seismic attributes over multiple geological scenarios.
