Effective seismic reservoir characterization requires a solid understanding of the rock physics and the appropriate seismic data conditioning, seismic inversion, and seismic reservoir characterisation technology. These tools and workflows must be fast, interactive, and deployable within pragmatic timeframes. The RokDoc Reservoir Characterization Module provides this and more.

Rock Physics Infused Reservoir Characterization

Leverage the knowledge from well-based rock physics analyses to make more robust predictions of rock properties and subsurface architecture from seismic. Capture and analyse both data and geological uncertainty in the estimates.

Powerful and Interactive Seismic Data Conditioning (SDC) and Inversion

Get access to fast, recipe-based seismic data conditioning and seismic inversion workflows. Chained recipes make parameter testing a breeze, adjust any parameter in the workflow from data conditioning, to inversion, to facies classification and immediately see the impact on the final product. Only generate the volumes on disk that you need.

Integrated, Rock Physics Driven 4D Analysis

A full understanding of the impact of production on seismic response requires integration of engineering, geological and geophysical data in a single shared Earth model. Only by making this connection can we extract the most value from time-lapse seismic. The Reservoir Monitoring add-on provides a framework for modelling the effects of production and provides a space to estimate changes in saturation and pressure from changes in seismic response over time.

CASE STUDY Predicting facies geometry and pay thickness in a frontier basin

Challenge: In this frontier basin, sparse well control coupled with complex seismic responses from a mixed clastic-carbonate settings means that predicting reservoir, and pay, presence is highly uncertain and subsequently well placement is high risk.

Solution: A reservoir characterization tool that predicts facies directly from seismic data based on, and consistent with, a robust understanding of regional rock physics trends per facies. A method of capturing the geological uncertainty in the inversion scheme, and the ability to investigate and understand that uncertainty. A truly 3D inversion where the mixed discrete/continuous nature of the inverse problem is captured allowing for the prediction of precise facies transitions.

Results: Accurate pre-drill prediction of facies layering and geometry, hydrocarbon contacts and hydrocarbon column. Elastic impedances that are consistent with regional rock physics trends and the investigation of geological uncertainty. Pre-drill prediction of gas column thickness within 4ft of that encountered by the post-inversion well.

Add-Ons

SDC & Inversion
SDC & Inversion

A flexible and powerful set of seismic data conditioning and seismic inversion tools. Implemented as coupled recipes, the conditioning and inversion tools can be linked to form one interactive chain between input seismic and final inversion products. In addition, a range of QC products and links back to the well control are provided, so that you can run seismic inversion both quickly and with confidence.

Condition seismic data and run seismic inversions with confidence
Both seismic data conditioning and seismic inversion require careful parameterisation and testing to achieve the best results for the dataset you have. RokDoc therefore takes an interactive chained recipe-based approach, allowing rapid parameter testing, and real-time insight into the impact on the final result.

Advanced SDC
Advanced SDC

The next level in seismic data conditioning. Advanced tools that allow you to further optimise seismic data for quantitative interpretation beyond what is possible using the SDC and Inversion add-on alone. Intelligent noise suppression, including a specific tool for low frequencies, advanced time-alignment, and gradient stabilization.

Ensure that the results of seismic inversion are optimal
Successful seismic inversion depends on having optimized seismic amplitudes, and successful inversion is of course key to the seismic reservoir characterization workflow. The advanced SDC tools allow you to get the most out of inversion and therefore also seismic reservoir characterization.

Reservoir Monitoring
Reservoir Monitoring

4D seismic is now a must-have IOR technology for optimal reservoir strategy and reservoir delivery. To extract the maximum information, we need to understand the connection between production related changes and seismic response. RokDoc’s Reservoir Monitoring add-on allows the combination of geological, geophysical and reservoir engineering data with our powerful rock physics acumen resulting in a robust link between observed changes in both seismic amplitudes and timing, and production.

Realize the potential of 4D seismic for reservoir delivery
4D seismic can be a powerful tool for understanding what is happening between the wells during production. It can guide the siting of in-fill wells, and ultimately it has the potential to allow intra-well history matching. The only way to achieve this is via the definition of a shared Earth model where all relevant data types are combined and linked using rock physics.

RokDoc Ji-Fi
RokDoc Ji-Fi

RokDoc Ji-Fi (Joint Impedance and Facies Inversion) is a unique Ikon Science technology for estimating facies and impedances directly from seismic data. The method has multiple advantages over both conventional and other facies-based seismic inversion techniques; it is facies-aware and rock physics consistent, and therefore frames the inverse problem correctly; it is a truly 3D inversion and it allows both geological and data uncertainties to be captured and investigated.

A better way of thinking about inversion
RokDoc Ji-Fi allows more realistic, more accurate estimation of facies and impedances in the subsurface. It produces rock physics consistent impedances and higher resolution results, while providing a method of investigating uncertainty. It blends the worlds of seismic inversion and seismic reservoir characterization. The only way to get accurate and robust estimates of petrophysical properties from seismic is to understand what the seismic is responding to and capture that in the inversion scheme.
